Elephant Toothpaste
Yesterday LS1 and Room 5 went down to the fields to watch an experiment. At 2:00pm Miss Kirkpatrick invited some visitors from Edgewater college called Mrs Davis and Ms Dutton. They came to our school and showed us how to Make Elephant Toothpaste.
First they told us about the instructions and the ingredients they were going to use. Then they used two volunteers from our class which was Troy and Viva. They both had to wear safety glasses.
First they poured 100 mls of Hydrogen peroxide. Next they added a squirt of Detergent. As Troy added the Potassium Iodide the ingredient combined together and made a nice orangey colour. When the Elephant toothpaste was trying to burst out of the cylinder it turned to white and it started explode out of the cylinder and got bigger and bigger. Everybody was laughing and so excited when it bursted out.
Next it was time to do the elephant toothpaste again but in a fizzy bottle. So they had to choose 2 new volunteers. The volunteers was Alice and Vance. They had to wear safety glasses. First Miss Davis Poured 100mls of Hydrogen Peroxide into the cylinder then she tipped it inside the fizzy bottle. Next Vance had to squeeze the Detergent into the Bottle. As Alice added the Potassium iodide it changed to a orangey colour and started to burst up real high and the bottle started to melt and get little. As it exploded out everybody wanted to touch it, but it was hot, but about a minute it started to feel warm. When we finished the 2 experiments Miss Davis and Ms Dutton just wanted to thank us from coming then Jack thanked them back and said something kind to them.
At the end everybody went to touch the elephant toothpaste everybody was pushing and shoving because they really wanted to touch the elephant toothpaste. As they got back to class their hands started to get yellow.
