Activity 3: The Columbian Exchange

This week is the Manaiakalani SLJ Teaser Week. The theme for this year is called "change makers". This theme will help us learn more about incredible people who have changed the world. For this activity I worked on my own to complete this activty. To complete this task I was asked to think of someone who has had a positive impact in my life. Below I have written a short description of who this person is and what they did to make me become a person that I am today. - This was a very hard descison to make, especially because I have had a lot people who has given me support throughout the year. I chose to talk about my uncle Amanaki Mafi. He is a rugby player who plays for the Japan rugby team. He participated in some games for this years Rugby World Cup as well. Sporting for me has become a bigger impact in life, especially when my uncle was over in New Zealand. As a young child I was very into sports, but my parents didn't allow me to play, because they thought that I was perhaps going to get hurt/ just because I was a young girl who didn't show them how passionate I was about sports. My uncle was my idol and still is. He is currently living in Japan with his family and I tend to call him every now and then to check up on how sports is going. He was a person who encouraged and got me to play many sports that I am playing today. So far this year I have been selected for many representivite teams. The last time I saw him was a month ago back in Fiji for a wedding. He told me stories of how his parents taught him a very discipline life. Sports is almost a religion in our family, because almost each and everyone of us have a talent at a differnet sport. Sports became a bigger impact in his life. Today I believe this is the reason why I am into sports, because of him. Moving on forward my goal is to play to a high standard, make my family proud and try my best become a rugby player for the Black Ferns rugby team.

Activity 2: When the Rubber Hits the Road

This week is the Manaiakalani SLJ Teaser Week. The theme for this year is called "change makers". This theme will help us learn more about incredible people who have changed the world. For this activity I worked collaboratively together with Marieta, Fui and Sakina. To complete this challenge I was told to interview three friends and ask them what they are most proud of. I have many acheivemnets, especialy with family, but my big one so far is: Mele - A big achievement that I am very proud of this year is being able to lead my school as Head Girl for 2019, because not only was I able to welcome visitors, present many times and take on responsibilities, but I believe that being chosen as Head Girl has given me the opportunity to embrace our school VALUES very well and represent our school confidently. Next year will become a new chapter and being that I have experienced what a leader is like, I am fulfilled and ready to become a ambassador at my new college.  Sakina - "I am proud of my confidence being boosted up to a higher level than before and being able to present more in school events". " I am also proud of my sister who just graduated from university to become a nurse". Fui - " I am proud of being being able to take my role as sports leader this year and partricipating in all sports, eveing place in most of them". Marieta - " I am proud of myslef. Two weeks ago I was baptised. It was my own decision and my family was proud of myself for giving my life to the lord. The next day I said the bible reading for the preacher. I am a very shy girl so it is a big acomplish that I went up infront of 50 people and read the bible verse".

Information Report - Neil Armstrong

Neil Armstrong

This isn't about Yuri Gagarin, nor is it about Sputnik 1, but it is about Neil Armstrong. Neil Armstrong Is known to be the first person to walk on the moon. Did you know that at the age of 16 he received his first pilots licence? At an early age Neil Armstrong developed interest in planes. He was born in 1930 August 5th in Ohio.

When he was 14 years old he took his first flying lessons. After college Neil became a test pilot, he flew 78 missions during war. In 1949 the US Navy called him for active duty. Only some pilots were chosen to be astronauts. In 1962 Neil Armstrong was chosen to be one of the astronauts. During this time America had planned their first flight to the moon. Neil Armstrong had the opportunity take America's first flight to the moon.

In 1969 July 20th Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon. His first words, as he stepped on the moon were "that's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind". A huge number of people watched the first moonwalk on TV. During his career he flew over 200 types of aircraft. September 1962 he was elected for the NASA Astronaut Corps, which meant he had completed a number of physical tests. After hearing that people were selling his autographs online, he stopped signing in them.

Before NASA had its name it went by the name NACA, before Armstrong had worked there. He had a variety of roles to do, such as Engineering, Test Pilot, Astronaut and Administrator. Soon he resigned From the US astronaut program in 1970 and became Professor of Aerospace Engineering at University of Cincinnati and Served as chairman of the board of computing Technologies for Aviation.

Now you know that this wasn't about Yuri Gagarin, nor was it about Sputnik 1, but it was about Neil Armstrong. From this day on, Neil Armstrong's footprints are still laid on the Moon.

Fun Fact: The three pilots arrived back on Earth, July 24th, which meant that they had spent 4 days on the moon.

Mele and Marieta

This term for writing LS2 have been focusing on how to write and structure a information report. In LS2 we use TIPS to help us with our writing. T-Title, I-Information, P-Paragraphs, and S-Summary. Marieta and I worked collaboratively to write an information report about Neil Armstrong. It was really fun, because Mrs Anderson challenged us to use the voice type to write this, instead of actually typing it. Before anything happened, Marieta and I watched and researched different information about Neil Armstrong. We use present tense, technical words, nouns, subheadings, when we write our information reports. Did you know that Neil Armstrong's footprints are still laid on the moon, till now?

Blog Post Data Analysis

As a great start off for today LS2 have been completing their blog post analysis graphs, based on the amount of blog posts that they have completed. To make it more interesting we were asked to find the average amount of blog posts for each month for each year we have been blogging. Once we finished creating our bar graphs, we made a google drawing that explained information about our bar graphs. I started in 2015. I believe that I did great, because I tried my best to complete at least 3 blog posts. I found it interesting that in 2018 I received more blog posts than any other year. At the moment I am the first person to earn my 1000 blogs posts badge at PBS. The reason why I have the amount of blog posts is, because I participated in the Summer Learning Journey, which made me publish a lot of posts. Xtramaths was one of the posts that was published every morning in 2015-2016. I have created a screencastify to show you how to create your own blog post analysis.

Morning Routine Explanation

This week for writing Ms Kirkpatrick's group had to write a explanation about our own morning routine. We had to include the language features and the structure too. First we had to add the 3 bullet points talking about the three main points we were talking about in our 3 paragraphs. After that we had to write in the introduction, 3 paragraphs, and then the conclusion.

Morning Routine

  • Getting Ready
  • Breakfast
  • Leave

Morning Routine Getting Ready Breakfast Leave I love to have a morning routine. It helps me get organised and ready for new learning at school. This is my morning routine.

First I wake up from my alarm. This is my time to pray for about 10 minutes. After praying I go to the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth. The mouthfresh I use is as spicy as chilly. Next I go to my room and start to iron my uniform, I put it on my uniform and start to make breakfast.

After I pour in the cereal to my bowl and add milk. I add in my bananas to make it more delicious. While eating my breakfast I watch the news to see what has been happening. Soon I wash my bowl and leave it there to dry. Since I finished having breakfast I start making my lunch. Looking at my lunch makes me feel as if I hadn’t eaten anything in years.

Finally I get to pack my chromebook. Before putting my chromebook inside my case I make sure that it's fully charged and shut down. A while later I get in the car ready to leave to school. My mum drops me at school and gives me a hug before I leave so that I can have a great day at school with my wonderful teachers. When I leave it's like I'm leaving for a different country.

Being able to wake up, organised and knowing what to do already. I come to school early every time. This lets me learn what I need to know. If I never had a routine I would come late not knowing what to do! Would you like to have a morning routine like mine?

Blog Post Analysis

LI: To carry out a statistical inquiry.

Today Learning Space 2 had to create a DLO showing how any blog posts we published ever since we started blogging. Everybody created a google spreadsheet. In the spreadsheet we added the data from our blogs (this was the total number of blog posts we have done each year). I have been blogging for 4 years since 2015. In 2015 I got 230 posts, 2016 I got 265 post, 2017 I got 286 posts, and in 2018 I have only got 49 posts at the moment. Altogether I have published 830 blog posts. My goal is to be the first person to get the PBS 1000 Club badge.
