Swimming Lessons

This term for kiwisport we are doing Swimming lessons down at the Panmure Lagoon Pools. Before taking our swimming lessons everyone was to swim the whole length of the pool one by one. There were 2 groups. I was in the colour orange with a few others. At the beginning of our lessons each group got asked a number of questions about water safety. For the first lesson we were to swim down, touch the floor and get back up, until we got to the red dot. The next lesson that we did was doing the starfish for a minute. Most of us managed to complete that challenge. After that we did the stream line. For this lesson every was to put their hands up and squeeze it tight into their ears, then start swimming to the other end, without stopping. While everyone was doing the tumble turns (back/front flips), Chavda was showing us how to the butterfly. At the end of our session we did the box. The box is when you swim half of the pool with your nose in the water. Our first session of swimming was really fun and exciting, because we got the chance to learn a lot in 30 minutes.

Athletics

Today Panmure Bridge School participated in the athletics day. Athletics is when you do a bunch of field activities with your class. There were 4 house colours. They were red, blue, yellow, and green. There were 9 field events. They were rob the nest, hurdle and sponge relay, shot pot, discus, lifesaver, egg and spoon race, rest/dance station, long jump, and the Frisbee race. My house group was red. In my group I had Jeremiah, Harlem, Chavda, and Junior. We all enjoyed the activities that we participated in. We had students from Tamaki College to help us with the activities. My favourite activity was the hurdle and sponge relay, because I liked it how I got wet. The last field event that we did was sprints. Each year group had a different meter mark to run from. Overall I came 2nd for the year 7 girls.

We played against Tamaki Primary twice, Glenbrae, Sylvia Park, Rupotaka, and Panmrue Bridge Green. We had a draw, win, and the rest were loses. My Rugby Match

Today was our 4th to last game until our rugby season ends. Today my team ( Under 13 girls) played against Manurewa Marlins at Leabank park. Half of my team were at Fiji for a netball tournament with my coach, which meant that there were only 8 of us playing on the field. In a actual game for our team there is suppose be 10 players a side playing. Today it turned out to be 8 of us playing this meant that everyone in our team couldn't sub off and on. Everyone in my team managed to play for 80 whole minutes, even though the other team had 10 players on. Our supporters were cheering really loud. On the first half  our team managed to score 4 tries and the other team managed to score 3 tries. Even though we were winning we still needed to work on the defense so that the other team could stop scoring more tries. On the last half our team managed to score 3 more tries. I was lucky enough to get one of the tries in the last half. Our supporters were really happy that we were winning, even though we had less players than the other team. The props were really tired so I decided to go in and do some tackling and big hits. There was only 1 more minute, until our game had ended. My team managed to use that minute really good and scored one more try. As the ref blew the whistle for full time all of our supporters started running onto the field and started hugging us with excitement. Our supporters were really proud of the hard work we did, even though we had 8 players. This match was to see who placed 1st. Finally it came to the awarding part. The point of this part was to award money to the top 3 who done really well in this match. I managed to get player of the day including $20. My parents, team, and manager were really proud of me.

This week Mrs Anderson arrived from her trip and it sounded like fun. Since she went to Chicago we were to create a DLO about the main Chicago sport teams. The main teams we were creating a DLO about were: Chicago Bulls ( Basketball), Chicago Cubs ( Baseball), Chicago Bears ( American Football), Chicago Blackhawks ( Ice Hokey), and White Sox ( Baseball). The DLO we have created includes 3 interesting facts, uniform kit, home ground, and a logo of there sport team.

Athletics Day

Today Panmure Bridge School had their Athletics day. Athletics is when you play games sports, and more. There was teams- Colour red, green, yellow, and blue. Everybody had to wear clothes that was suitable for running, jumping, and throwing. Each year grade group had a teacher to go with and do one station at a time. The first station that we went to was the egg and spoon race. In this game we had to get into our colour teams. The person at the front needs to have a spoon and a egg. The egg needs to be placed on top of the spoon. When the instructor says go the person at the front needs to zig zag around the cones, walk over a long stick, and then stand on the pad using 1 leg for 10 seconds. Whoever dropped it had to wait for 5 seconds. There was 9 stations to go through. My favourite station was the sponge race. The most think I liked about this was rolling and getting wet. Each team won a session. I would love to give a big thank you to the Tamaki College helpers for helping us out on these events. At the end of this my team-green and team blue had a tie which means both teams won. After lunch it was the finals for sprints. I felt like I was going to finish last because my leg but at the end I came first.

KiwiSport

LI: To Scissors kick when jumping. Today for Kiwi sport we focused on jumping over the holds. First we played our warm up game called Octopus. Octopus helped up by developing our skills when we run or drive through others. The next thing we did was practising skills for scissors jumping over something. The skills were when you jump you use left arm left leg/right arm right leg. One of the skills was bent knees as well. The last thing we did was jumping over the holds. Congratulations to Julian for jumping the highest out of all of us. Students got to pick which one they were use to the most.
