End of Year Blog Post Analysis

This week LS2 has been updating their blog post analysis for 2019. Above, I have created a bar graph that shows the total of all my blog posts that were done this for this year. This year I finished off with a number of 191 blog posts. In five years of blogging I have completed 1265 blog posts! This is the highest number of blog posts anyone in our school has reached since we introudced chromebooks, which I am very honoured and proud of. As Head Girl for 2019, I believe that being the first student at P.B.S to be awarded this is amazing, because, it shows other schools that I love to share my digital learning with others globaly. Above Marieta and I have worked collabrtively together to create a screen - castify that explains the whole process of our blogging journey. 

May Flower - Thanksgiving

Every year a special event is held in the United States. Thanks giving is a national holiday that is celebrated in the United States, Canda and many others. Last week LS2 focused on why and how thanksgiving was important. Together in groups we worked collabritively together to finish this animation. After reading a site of information we were challenged to retell the story in 5 sentences. Therefore, we created an animation to show our retold story. 

Pop up Globe Visit

Last week LS2 recieved a visit from Rita and Ruben. Rita and Ruben are actors from the pop up globe. The pop up globe is currently down at Ellerslie. There were 2 globes, but unfornuatley one got burnt down. All plays were orginally made and written by William Shakespeare. Even more shocking tragedy plays ended up with people dying. Yet, comedy plays ended up with marriage at the end. Back then people used pot and spoons to stop the rain. The narrator uses the fourth wall to include his audience. Did you know that they mix genders during their acts? William Shakespeare uses a 10 patern beat in his plays. Each play would take around one to two hours long.

The Deadly Flu of 1918

This week for reading, LS2 continued on from what they did last week. My group and I read the book - The Deadly Flu of 1918. After completing a session of reciprocal reading, our challenge was to summarise 5 sentences and then turn the 5 sentences into 10 syllable sentneces. To make it interesting we also, did literacy weaving. We used the blank spaces on the strip to write 2 words that summarise the big ideas in the story and 2 images that represent the story visually. Above shows the summary that we created and the liteacry weaving that we completed. 

Market Day Evaluation

This terms inquiry focus is Enterprise and Economics. Being that we have focused on this for a few weeks now, panmure bridge held a market day, which meant each class was able to sell their own  items. As a class we all decided to hand make rainbow crayons. Rainbow crayons was a viable choice, because not only did the colurs attract our buyers, but we priced it right at $1. Our economic success was great, because we used recycled broken crayons, we were gifted the moulds and there were no labour costs. In total our gross profit was $96.00, but the net profit was $88.00, since we subtracted $8.00 from the 96. It was cheap to make, because our costs were low enough. Next time I would change where the stalls are being placed: e.g - to the court, because not only is it big enough for each class, but it'll make everything easier than placing stalls around the school. 

Manaiaklani Film Festival

Every year a Manaiakalani Film Festival is being held. This year Manaiakalni schools are proud to represent he 12th annual Manaiakalani Film Festival. There were thirteen schools who took part in this years Manaiakalani Festival. Everyone enjoyed watching all the digital schools, create their own movies that happen around their learning enviorment. Panmure Bridge School took intersting ads and remade them, using the Learn, Create and Share theme. The ad that our class created was exactly like the snickers ad, but using our school fruit and milk. My favourite movie so far would be, the "I am respect" film from Tamaki College, because it gave a reminder of why showing respect is important, especially the positivity behind it's meaning.

Kiwi sport - Tennis

This week for kiwi sport LS2 completed another session of Tennis, with Peter. Today we learnt how to do the "volley". Volley is when a ball is hit, before it bounces on the ground. A player would usually hit a volley when they are standing near the net. Today we used, volley in many of our plays. Above I have compared my style to a tennis player, by drawing lines to show how well I stood compared to a good tennis player. As you can see my arm is down, while her arm is going up. 

Financial Literacy

This week for maths our focus is to understand profit equals income minus expenditure. A profit is the money you earn, by making something and selling it. The purpose of this game was to make an amount of money. We, also used some great vocabulary like: spend, save budget discount and many more. The outcome of my balance turned out to be a loss of - $51.00 . The best part was being able to be left on the space " SALE ", because we then used a lettered dice, which gave us the opportunity of selling a specific item. In total I was left with 9 juggling balls, 4 hacky sacks and 5 bunjy balls.  

Tips to staying safe during Guy Fawkes

This week since Guy Fawkes is taking place soon, the seniors created simple and creative DLO's about Guy Fawkes. We did this to explain some clear and understanding safety tips about guy fawkes to our juniors. We made it look interesting, by using free icons and clear words.

Since, Guy Fawkes is taking place soon, LS2 has been creating a number of different DLO's about the reason behind why we celebrate and who he really is. Marieta and I worked collaboratively together to find out who Guy Fawkes was and why he was an important member of the group. To add on we, also included information about his personal biography and interesting facts about his crime. Did you know that , St Peters in York does not celebrate this event ?

Collaborative Challenge - Budget of $200

This week for math we were given a challenge to complete together as a group. We were given a budget of $200 to do a weekly grocery shop for our maths group. We used an abundance of money to provide our group with enough healthy food for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for one week. The challenging part was trying to decide what dinner was going to be, because most of us thought of different ideas, but at the end we chose which one was the best and cheapest.

Why I should be an asset to McAuley High School?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like going to college? Or even thought about leaving primary too soon? Well I have. I chose to go McAuley and most interestingly I got accepted. I am willing to become one of McAuley's head prefects, especially because I have talents in myself that people don't see. 

However, this year I am the 2019 Head Girl of Panmure Bridge School. Out of school bounds I play rugby, touch and tag for different clubs. Last year I played for Howick Hornets u13 girls and won 2018 premierships. I played prop and left wing. Next year I am planning to play rugby, tag, netball and touch for school, but also club. During school hours, I have had the capability of showing Confidence, Attitude, Respect, Excellence and Innovation, as they are the values that we believe in - Our  whakatauki: Manaaki Whenua, Manaaki Tangata, Haera Whakamau - Care for the land, Care for the people, Go forward. The opportunities that are offered at McAuley gives me the chance to excel my learning to a higher expectation. I have represented my school in all sports, cultural events, and competitions like the: Summer/Winter learning journey. 

I believe that McAuley will help me achieve my academic goals, and to become a better person in the future. McAuley is a school that I was interested in going to, especially because both my parents work around Otahuhu. I have heard a lot of positive things about the sisterhood that happens in McAuley, especially the unbreakable bond that goes on. I am proud to be apart of the Catholic Religious, because we celebrate Christ through his Mercy. I know that I will be able to dominate McAuley’s school values, by respecting the environment, celebrating everyone’s talents, and to have pride in everything I do, which means I believe that McAuley is a school full of faith, hope, and love.

McAuley has a number of responsibilities and school values that students are required to follow. The activities that are selected, is what I believe I can cope with. Outside of school hours I take private piano lessons with my piano teacher every week. I just started this year and beginning to gain more knowledge. My practise happens everyday for from 5-6. I believe that being a confident piano player will encourage me to join McAuley's instrumental and choir group. I too is apart of the children's choir group at church.

We sing every Tuesday and sometimes on a Sunday mass. At the end of every year we always get the opportunity to perform our music to people who live in rest homes. I am expected to say my verse at the end/start of the day and one of my family favourite verses which I learn by heart: Psalms 27:4 - “ One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord, and to seek him in his temple.

" Show respect, get respect "

Respect, empathy, kindness, attitude and tolerance? Hmmmm, what are these words? What do they mean? These words are called Qualities. Qualities are features that someone / something has. It may sound strange, but they do have a special meaning behind it. Have a think. Have you ever used one of them? if so when and why? Although, our school is a digital learning environment we have 4 values that we follow. Confidence, attitude, respect and excellence and innovation. 

Respect? What does respect mean to you? Respect means caring for someone the way that you would. Showing respect is an important quality, because it can be given and received easily. There has always been that time, where you may not like someone, which I understand, but showing respect is required, because having it in yourself shows others that you are able to care for a person's needs/feelings.

Do you have a best friend? I have a best friend that I care for, especially, because in return I know that she cares for me too. " Show respect, get respect " is a phrase that I get given all the time. Why, because it is a really true statement. If respect is shown, it will be given back. In many cultures, individuals are required to be worthy for each other. 

Respect is shown in many different languages / ways. For instance, it is disrespectful for Tongans to play, dance and work on a Sunday, because we believe that it is important to we keep the Sabbath day holy.In all Tongan schools girls are required to have their hairs platted in two's with a coloured ribbon. In Tongan culture, it is disrespectful for girls to wear shorts during prayers, because their showing too much of their body, but in return it is disrespectful for boys to spread their legs around during prayers.

Water Filters

This term for inquiry we have been focusing on STEAM. Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths. We have been completing a number of activites to do with STEAM. One of my favourite one's was creating catapults and firing them at a target. For the past few weeks, LS2 have been talking about the amount of water that the world has used. For the activty this week, we were asked to create water filters, by using water bottles. Our goal was to transform dirty water into clean water. Above Nyjah and I have created a DLO explaning what we did to make these, especially the materials that we used. 

RWC 2019 Backpack

Since the Rugby World Cup is being held in Japan, LS2 have been completing a number of RWC activties to support this event that is going on around the World. We have been learning, to identify persuasive langauge features in advertising. Above shows the advertisment poster that Marieta and I created about the merchhandise that we chose to sell from the RWC shopping online site. We either chose to sell the hover bike/ a RWC merchandise.Marieta and I decided to sell the Canterbury backpack. 

Rugby Pitch Problem Solving

Since the Rugby World Cup is being held this year in Japan, LS2 have been completing a number of activites based on the Rugby World Cup. Today we worked out the measurments of a Rugby Pitch. Angela, Marieta and I worked collabrtively together to work out the maths questions. The strategy that we used the most was the Place Value colunms, because it helped us  through everything, especially when using the long multiplication strategy.Above shows a DLO of our favourite world problem/strategy. Te Wiki Te Reo Maori

Since this week is Maori Language week LS2 have been completing a number of activites to include the language of Maori. Above shows the activity that I completed on my own. It shows the national anthem, colours, numbers and phrases in both English and Maori. Did you know that each Maori tattoo has a meaning behind it and that Maori is one of the youngest cultres?

My Favourite Cultral Celebration

'Let me tell you about… the Heilala Festival that I celebrate. This is one of Tongan's most important festivals ever, because it is also known as the King's birthday (King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV). We celebrate this event, by creating, items, performances, clothes and many more. 

Every year, we have young contestants who showcase their talents through beauty and knowledge. People in the villages usually parade around the city  just to show their love and support . This year Yehenara from Hawaii was crowned as Miss Heilala, 2019. Island creations and colourful sarongs are showcased on a specific night, during the 2019 Miss Heilala Pageant, at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall. This year it began on July 22nd, 2019.

This takes place in Tonga, Nukualofa. Each contestant showcases their own performances that retell the story of their lifetime. Most of them usually present a tauolunga, which is a traditional dance that Tongan's do when a special event has taken place.  LI: To understand how and when to use commas. We use commas when: we write a list, seperate dialogue, before any FANBOYS, a city/suburb, date/year, introductory words and a rest in a sentence ( complex sentence/join ideas). Today our challenge was to write about our favourite cultral celebration using 5 - 7 - 10. 5 minutes to write, 7 minutes to share/edit with a buddy and 10 minutes to continue writing.

Exploring International current events

Each day, newspaper editors around the world must make desicions about which stories they will run. We explored the different types of current events that are happening around the world. We thought about why the story made the news and plotted the location on a google map. Marieta and I worked collabritively together to find articles that realted to these groups. The most interesting article that we found out was,74 year old lady gives brith to twins to set world record, which took place in India. 

Duffy Assembly

Today Panmure Bridge School held a duffy assembly. Today we received a special visit from Jamie Wall, who is a sports commentator. Tomorrow he will be heading down Japan for the world cup to report the rugby for Maori Television. He is also known as a author, since he wrote and published a book called Brother in Black. His book is rated the best selling in New Zealand. He was inspired by the book Men in Black, NZ rugby history. Did you know that he was asked a bunch of questions and more interesting he got all of them right, which made him get into this job. At the end of assembly each class was presented with their duffy books, by Mr Johnston and Jamie Wall. A huge thank you to Jamie Wall for coming and sharing his amazing story about his inspiration for books. Stay safe and most importantly have fun!
