Tech

Today LS2 completed their last session of their rotation at Tamaki College. Since Mrs Heka was back we finished our last session food tech = cultural food. This week we made Thai fish cakes. This theme is all about cultural food.  Each person had their own roles to complete. While Avalon was doing the dishes I was making sure that the food was all prepared, but in the beginning Avalon was dicing the onions and adding it into the bowl. The equipment that we used were: sharp knifes, measuring cups, large bowl, cutting boards, frying pan, mixing tool, and measuring spoons. The ingredients that we used were: fish, ginger pace, chili, fish sauce, brown sugar, coriander, onions and oil. The best part about this was getting to eat the food with my friends. Thank you to Mrs Heka for an amazing cooking session.

Chop Suey/ Food at Tamaki College

Today LS2 completed their last session of their rotation for Term 2. Our teacher was Mrs Heka, who takes care of food tech. Today we cooked Chop Suey from the background of Samoa. This rotations theme is all about cultural food. Since there wasn't an equal amount of students in food class, there was a group of 3: Avalon, Joel and I. Each person had their own roles to complete. Joel and I worked together to make sure that the dishes were done, and that the main ingredients were prepared to be added in, while Avalon was dicing the onion, chicken, and garlic. The equipment that we used from our trolley was: medium bowl, measuring cups/spoons, knives, cutting board, big pot, strainer, fork, and serving spoon. The ingredients were: mixed vegetables, chicken, soy sauce, boiling water, oil, vermicelli, and salt. We were told to remove the pot from the heat every 2 minutes, because of the stickiness from the chicken and vermicelli. At the end of the session, as always we cleansed down our top/bottom benches, especially the stoves/crum tray. While we were cooking our chop suey, Mrs Heka was getting the rice prepared.

Tech

Today LS2 completed their second session of their rotation. Since Mrs Heka was away, we had a reliever to fill her in - Ms Ellis. This meant that we weren't able to do food tech, but we managed to complete different types of worksheets. This worksheet included word finds, picture finding, and poster making about food tech. If we completed these sheets we could create a poster that shows others to beware of hot surfaces or anything. The challenging part was trying to find carrot in the word find, because it was spelt diagonally.

Gymnastics

This week LS2 completed their second session of Gymnastics with Steve. Steve works at the Eastern Suberbs Gymnastics gym. Their were 3 courses. There were 3 rotations, as usual. Each group had about 10 minutes at each course. We did forward/back rolls, handstands, beam balancing and building strength. We learnt how to dive into a forward roll. As usual we went through our stretches and a game of gymnastics stuck in the mud. My favourite part was doing the diving roll, because I got to use the trampoline. The most challenging part would be trying to keep my legs straight, while swinging into a L shape. Everyone managed to give everything a good try. The 1 rule is to try everything out. Thank you to Steve for another session of Gymnastics.

Tech - Metal Work

Today LS2 completed their last session of their rotation. For the previous weeks Mr Naicker hasn't been with us, so Mr Dunn has being teaching us lately. We continued, by polishing our pizza cutters/ cake servers, and finishing off our worksheets. Today we all maintained to finish our designs, so we tested it, by using pizza and cake. Each person got up and tried if their designs would be able to work. We managed to share both the pizza and cake equally with everyone's working designs. The best part of it was getting to file and polish our designs. Last week we drilled our own wholes into the center of our circles.Thank you to Mr Dunn, Mr Naicker, and Mr Tom for an awesome term of metal work. Next week we might be moving to food tech with Ms Heka.

Tamaki College Open Day

After tech today the year 8's stayed behind at Tamaki College for a open day. This is where the year 8's experience a day of what being at college looks like. We took orientations around the school for different subjects. The subjects that we learnt were Maths and Science. In Maths we learnt how to use co-ordinates, by drawing an alien. To make sure that we had understood what we were learning, we played a Maths game called Billy Bug. (CLICK HERE FOR THE GAME). During morning tea, Mr Dunn (Deputy Principal), and a few year 9 students introduced their selves, as they were going to lead us during the day. In Science we tried 3 different experiments, by using dried ice. For one of the experiments, the equipment that was needed, was dried ice, water, a big bowl, and a cylinder container. To make this experiment work, we were to add dried ice and water into the cylinder container, and then close the lid. After closing the lid you were to stand it up in the bowl, and see it launch up, like a rocket. This was a contest, so the group with the highest launch, were the winners. Thank you to the teachers for the amazing teaching. We enjoy every part of it, especially the challenges.

Tech

Today LS2 went through another week of Tech at Tamaki College. The year 7's are with Mr Grundy, the year 8A are with Ms Fergsuon, while the year 8B are with Mr Naicker. For tech most people continued on, by fileing the edges of their handles. Jack, Te Pounamu, and I were fileing the blade of our pizza cutters. Previously I had been using 2 types of sandpapers to make the edges of my handle smooth and flat. To make it better I polished it when finishing using the sandpaper.

Tech

Today was another session of tech. Our tech teacher was Mr Naicker. For tech we continued, by filing down the edges. Jack and I started sandpapering our handles to make it feel nice and smooth. I am currently using 2 types of sandpapers to make the edges of my hand base smooth. I have chosen to make a cake cutter, which will be a great thing to make. I have finished making the top of my handle smooth, but I need to work on making the sides of it nice. The year 7's are with Mr Grundy, while the Year 8A is with Ms Ferguson.

Tech with Mr Naicker

LS2 has started their first sessions with their new tech teachers. Our first session was great, as we got into our new groups for tech. It was very new to me, because the year 8's were given 2 groups, which meant that there was year 8 a and b. The year 8 A is with Ms Ferguson and the year 8 B is with Mr Naicker. I am with Mr Naicker, which means that I get to do metal working. For our first session we completed the context of creating a cake server/pizza cutter. We were to say who we'd make it for and why.

Tech

Today was our first session for term 2 at Tamaki College Tech. Our instructor today was Mr Grundy. Mr Grundy's class learnt all about doing pewter casting. Today some students were finishing off their workbooks to get good marks on their reports. My first pewter casting I did was a pregnant woman. I chose to make this for my mum because she is a professional midwife. Last week on Friday I started finishing off my workbook because I finished making my pewter casting for my mum. I was the first student to finish off my pewter casting.
