End of Year Blog Post Analysis

This week LS2 has been updating their blog post analysis for 2019. Above, I have created a bar graph that shows the total of all my blog posts that were done this for this year. This year I finished off with a number of 191 blog posts. In five years of blogging I have completed 1265 blog posts! This is the highest number of blog posts anyone in our school has reached since we introudced chromebooks, which I am very honoured and proud of. As Head Girl for 2019, I believe that being the first student at P.B.S to be awarded this is amazing, because, it shows other schools that I love to share my digital learning with others globaly. Above Marieta and I have worked collabrtively together to create a screen - castify that explains the whole process of our blogging journey. 

Activity 3: The Columbian Exchange

This week is the Manaiakalani SLJ Teaser Week. The theme for this year is called "change makers". This theme will help us learn more about incredible people who have changed the world. For this activity I worked on my own to complete this activty. To complete this task I was asked to think of someone who has had a positive impact in my life. Below I have written a short description of who this person is and what they did to make me become a person that I am today. - This was a very hard descison to make, especially because I have had a lot people who has given me support throughout the year. I chose to talk about my uncle Amanaki Mafi. He is a rugby player who plays for the Japan rugby team. He participated in some games for this years Rugby World Cup as well. Sporting for me has become a bigger impact in life, especially when my uncle was over in New Zealand. As a young child I was very into sports, but my parents didn't allow me to play, because they thought that I was perhaps going to get hurt/ just because I was a young girl who didn't show them how passionate I was about sports. My uncle was my idol and still is. He is currently living in Japan with his family and I tend to call him every now and then to check up on how sports is going. He was a person who encouraged and got me to play many sports that I am playing today. So far this year I have been selected for many representivite teams. The last time I saw him was a month ago back in Fiji for a wedding. He told me stories of how his parents taught him a very discipline life. Sports is almost a religion in our family, because almost each and everyone of us have a talent at a differnet sport. Sports became a bigger impact in his life. Today I believe this is the reason why I am into sports, because of him. Moving on forward my goal is to play to a high standard, make my family proud and try my best become a rugby player for the Black Ferns rugby team.

Activity 2: When the Rubber Hits the Road

This week is the Manaiakalani SLJ Teaser Week. The theme for this year is called "change makers". This theme will help us learn more about incredible people who have changed the world. For this activity I worked collaboratively together with Marieta, Fui and Sakina. To complete this challenge I was told to interview three friends and ask them what they are most proud of. I have many acheivemnets, especialy with family, but my big one so far is: Mele - A big achievement that I am very proud of this year is being able to lead my school as Head Girl for 2019, because not only was I able to welcome visitors, present many times and take on responsibilities, but I believe that being chosen as Head Girl has given me the opportunity to embrace our school VALUES very well and represent our school confidently. Next year will become a new chapter and being that I have experienced what a leader is like, I am fulfilled and ready to become a ambassador at my new college.  Sakina - "I am proud of my confidence being boosted up to a higher level than before and being able to present more in school events". " I am also proud of my sister who just graduated from university to become a nurse". Fui - " I am proud of being being able to take my role as sports leader this year and partricipating in all sports, eveing place in most of them". Marieta - " I am proud of myslef. Two weeks ago I was baptised. It was my own decision and my family was proud of myself for giving my life to the lord. The next day I said the bible reading for the preacher. I am a very shy girl so it is a big acomplish that I went up infront of 50 people and read the bible verse".

Activity 1: The Rainman of Rajasthan

This week is the Manaiakalani SLJ Teaser Week. The theme for this year is called "change makers". This theme will help us learn more about incredible people who have changed the world. For this activity I worked collaboratively together with Eyaka, Ellenora, Marieta and Angelene. To complete this activity we were challenged to answer a few questions about the water project: what is the goal of the organisation, where do they work and what they have achieved. Before answering these questions, we watched a video to find out more about the water project. Something interesting that I found out was that approximately 1 billion people have no access to clean water. 

Activity 3: The Greatest of All Time

For this actvity I was challenged to imagine that I was" Garry Kasparov" and that I was the best chess player in the world.  I was then told to list three pros and cons of being the GOAT of the chess world. ( Greatest of All Time ). However, since this is the " Teaser week" no points are given out for any of these activities.The programme runs over for six weeks (starts 16 December and finished Friday 24 January 2020).

Pros: Well known around the world, amazing at a talent where no one could beat you, make a lot of money.

Cons: Less time with family and friends, practise a lot, missing out on school.

Activity 2: Equal Pay for Equal Work?

This week is the Manaiakalani SLJ Teaser Week. The theme for this year is called "change makers". This theme will help us learn more about incredible people who have changed the world. Today I worked on my own to complete this activity. First we read an article called the 'gender pay gap' that explained the difference in pay for both the NZ's woman and men rugby team. Our challenge for today was to write a description about what we though about it, was it fair and should athletes be paid the same amount as male athletes who play the same sport? However, since this is the " Teaser week" no points are given out for any of these activities.

Activity 1: Faster than a speeding bullet

Today for this activty, I was challegned to create four new similies of my own. We could even use the starters that were given if needed. Shelly-Ann a world famous athlete (sprinter) has recently held the record for the 100m sprint and has be known " worlds fastest woman. People oftenly make comparisons with her, so we were challenged to create our own similies. However, since this is the " Teaser week" no points are given out for any of these activities. The programme runs over for six weeks (starts 16 December and finished Friday 24 January 2020). 

Activity 3: Big Friendly Giants

This week is the Manaiakalani SLJ Teaser Week. The theme for this year is called "change makers". This theme will help us learn more about incredible people who have changed the world. Today I listend to Daivd Walliams, a famous British actor, who was reading a short from the BFG. In the clip he was talking about a young girl named Sophie, who knew one of the BFG's favourite hobbies. After lsitening to the clip, our challenge was to write a character description of what we thought the BFG looked like in at least 10 describible words. However, since this is the " Teaser week" no points are given out for any of these activities. The programme runs over for six weeks (starts 16 December and finished Friday 24 January 2020).

Activity 2: Exploring Our Roots

This week is the Manaiakalani SLJ Teaser Week. The theme for this year is called "change makers". This theme will help us learn more about incredible people who have changed the world. Today I worked on my own to created my own pepeha.I have also added an image of my mountain as the background (Kao). On the right hand corner there is also an image of myself. I found this interesting, because not only did I have fun, but I got to be more creative with everything. However, since this is the " Teaser week" no points are given out for any of these activities. The programme runs over for six weeks (starts 16 December and finished Friday 24 January 2020).

Activity 1: New Zealand Royalty

This week is the Manaiakalani SLJ Teaser Week. The theme for this year is called "change makers". This theme will help us learn more about incredible people who have changed the world. Today I worked with Viliami and Amanaki to personalize a profile poster about the New Zealander singer, Lorde. Our challenge was to find as many facts as we could about Lorde. It was interesting to find out that Lorde had interest in swimming and walking, because I am too. However, since this is the " Teaser week" no points are given out for any of these activities. The programme runs over for six weeks (starts 16 December and finished Friday 24 January 2020).

May Flower - Thanksgiving

Every year a special event is held in the United States. Thanks giving is a national holiday that is celebrated in the United States, Canda and many others. Last week LS2 focused on why and how thanksgiving was important. Together in groups we worked collabritively together to finish this animation. After reading a site of information we were challenged to retell the story in 5 sentences. Therefore, we created an animation to show our retold story. 

Pop up Globe Visit

Last week LS2 recieved a visit from Rita and Ruben. Rita and Ruben are actors from the pop up globe. The pop up globe is currently down at Ellerslie. There were 2 globes, but unfornuatley one got burnt down. All plays were orginally made and written by William Shakespeare. Even more shocking tragedy plays ended up with people dying. Yet, comedy plays ended up with marriage at the end. Back then people used pot and spoons to stop the rain. The narrator uses the fourth wall to include his audience. Did you know that they mix genders during their acts? William Shakespeare uses a 10 patern beat in his plays. Each play would take around one to two hours long.

Tesselations

This week for maths we have been focusing on tesselations. A tesselation is a flat surface that is used for shapes, but instead with no overlaps or gaps. This morning we were challenged to draw a tessellating pattern, by using one of the chosen shapes. Each shape had a color pattern with it. The challening part was not being able to leave gaps in between the middle of our shapes. I found this very interesting at the same time, because we got to be creative, by translating, rotating and reflecting our shapes around. 

The Deadly Flu of 1918

This week for reading, LS2 continued on from what they did last week. My group and I read the book - The Deadly Flu of 1918. After completing a session of reciprocal reading, our challenge was to summarise 5 sentences and then turn the 5 sentences into 10 syllable sentneces. To make it interesting we also, did literacy weaving. We used the blank spaces on the strip to write 2 words that summarise the big ideas in the story and 2 images that represent the story visually. Above shows the summary that we created and the liteacry weaving that we completed. 

Market Day Evaluation

This terms inquiry focus is Enterprise and Economics. Being that we have focused on this for a few weeks now, panmure bridge held a market day, which meant each class was able to sell their own  items. As a class we all decided to hand make rainbow crayons. Rainbow crayons was a viable choice, because not only did the colurs attract our buyers, but we priced it right at $1. Our economic success was great, because we used recycled broken crayons, we were gifted the moulds and there were no labour costs. In total our gross profit was $96.00, but the net profit was $88.00, since we subtracted $8.00 from the 96. It was cheap to make, because our costs were low enough. Next time I would change where the stalls are being placed: e.g - to the court, because not only is it big enough for each class, but it'll make everything easier than placing stalls around the school.
