Summer Learning Journey - Activity 1 - Day 2 - Week 3

The word ‘bumblebee’ is a compound word (bumble + bee). The word ‘bumble’ means to hum, buzz, and drone.

Bumblebees can fly very quickly. They can reach ground speeds of 90 kilometres per hour (km/h)

Bumblebees are very strong! They carry up to 50 percent of their body weight in food with them to avoid starvation.

Bumblebees can do more work and carry more pollen than other bees, including honeybees. In fact, they can do up to  54 times as much work as a normal honeybee.

The number of bumblebees is declining in New Zealand due to a number of factors, including the removal of wildflowers and flowering trees, habitat loss, and extensive use of pesticides.

For this task I was to fill in the blank spaces based on formation about bumble bees.

For the Summer Learning Journey we are given tasks to finish. The people who place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd from each school wins exclusive prizes. The prizes this year is amazing. I have completed most of the week 1 challenges and the week 2 challenges. I am apparently on week 3 now. The week 3 challenges is based called Up, Up and Away. This task was based on the 5 hottest cities. I was to create a bar graph with the average of each places temperature.

Summer Learning Journey - Activity 2 - Day 1 - Week 3

This year Panmure Bridge School is lucky enough to participate in the Summer Learning Journey from 2018-2019. This is an opportunity for the Manaiakalani cluster school to join. For the Summer Learning Journey we are given tasks to finish. The people who place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd from each school wins exclusive prizes. The prizes this year is amazing. I have completed most of the week 1 challenges and the week 2 challenges. I am apparently on week 3 now. The week 3 challenges is based called Up, Up and Away. This task was based on being sun smart. Doing this task was helpful, because it gave me reasons to why we should be sun smart. Mostly, because people can get skin cancer. Here are the 5 reasons.

1. Wear a shirt with long sleeves.

2. Spend some time in the shade .

3. Slop sunscreen on after 20 minutes.

4. Wear a hat with flaps.

5. Wear glasses with the wrapping style.

For the Summer Learning Journey we are given tasks to finish. The people who place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd from each school wins exclusive prizes. The prizes this year is amazing. I have completed most of the week 1 challenges and the week 2 challenges. I am apparently on week 3 now. The week 3 challenges is based called Up, Up and Away. This task was based on Tourists visiting New Zealand. For this task I was to select the best time in the year for tourists to come and visit New Zealand and then share 3 reasons why. 

I would support my friends and families to come in Summer, because there are a lot of beaches to visit, there are many tourist attractions, and holiday motels where you can spend some peace and quiet.

Summer Learning Journey - Activity 3 - Day 5 - Week 2

The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system, made up of 2900 individual reefs. It is so big that it can actually be seen from space! The reef is located on the east coast of Australia and many people believe that it is millions and millions of years old. For most of its life, the reef has been a healthy, vibrant ecosystem. Over the past thirty years, however, it has changed dramatically. Much of the beautiful bright coral has become bleached and has lost its colour. Sections of the reef have also been damaged by tourists, cyclones and the introduction of new, damaging invasive species.

The Australian government is working to protect and preserve the reef. Each year they spend about $200 million dollars repairing and protecting the reef. It is a lot of money and they could really use some help raising the money (funds) required to repair the reef. Below shows my 3 given strategies and ideas.

1. A group of people should spread around the east coast of Australia and get more people to help out, like donate and fundraiser for this problem. Doing this will mean that they will earn more each time. because more people would actually join in.

2. We can start creating a lot of billboards to place around Australia.

3. Sell different types of things, like clothes, food, and more.

Summer Learning Journey - Activity 2 - Day 5 - Week 2

This year Panmure Bridge School is lucky enough to participate in the Summer Learning Journey from 2018-2019. This is an opportunity for the Manaiakalani cluster school to join. For the Summer Learning Journey we are given tasks to finish. The people who place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd from each school wins exclusive prizes. The prizes this year is amazing. I have completed most of the week 1 challenges, so I moved onto the week 2 challenges. The week 2 challenges is based on water, water, everywhere. For this task it was to find 2 different polluted rivers in New Zealand. Over the pass few years there have been a lot of polluting in New Zealand. I have chosen the Waikato River and the Selwyn River, which are both located in New Zealand.

Waikato River - Located in Waikato - It was messed with a group of rubbish and other objects, but they started cleaning it, by bringing a group of people to clean each area. 

Selwyn River - Located in Waikirikiri New Zealand/ Canterbury.  There are many reason to this river always being polluted. As sayings some people have said that they can't do anything as the climate change is an impact, but they have shown a diagram of the solution package. 

Summer Learning Journey - Activity 1 - Day 5 - Week 2

For the Summer Learning Journey we are given tasks to finish. The people who place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd from each school wins exclusive prizes. The prizes this year is amazing. I have completed most of the week 1 challenges, so I moved onto the week 2 challenges. The week 2 challenges is based on water, water, everywhere. For this task it was based on over fishing in New Zealand. Over fishing is when someone fishes in one area and then leaves the other area alone. When this happens it is called over fished, The rule is that if people are caught doing this they will be fined to pay the amount of $100, 000. 

What do you think about this rule? I think that this rule is not fair, because people may be wanting to fish, because they have no food. To my opinion I dont think that is is fair to charge people this amount of money, because these days people need food to eat and if they have nothing the only this that is left is seafood.
