This week LS2 completed their second session of Gymnastics with Steve. Steve works at the Eastern Suberbs Gymnastics gym. Their were 3 courses. There were 3 rotations, as usual. Each group had about 10 minutes at each course. We did forward/back rolls, handstands, beam balancing and building strength. We learnt how to dive into a forward roll. As usual we went through our stretches and a game of gymnastics stuck in the mud. My favourite part was doing the diving roll, because I got to use the trampoline. The most challenging part would be trying to keep my legs straight, while swinging into a L shape. Everyone managed to give everything a good try. The 1 rule is to try everything out. Thank you to Steve for another session of Gymnastics.

Earth and Beyond
This term for inquiry we have been focusing on the topic Space. This week we did our second rotation. Previously I have been with Mr Olgivie. Currently I am with Mrs Anderson. Previously we have been learning about the planets in our Solar System. We collaborated, while completing this activity. To complete this activity we built our prior knowledge, by writing notes down about what we already knew. We then actiavted onto our prior knowledge, by watching a video.

Science Investigation
(not including the cup). We used measured cups, soil, containers, rulers, pots, and trays. One thing we didn't control was worms! This was unfortunately unavoidable. Maybe the worms will affect the way our plants grow. Thank you Mrs Wells for an amazing science session.

Tech - Metal Work
Today LS2 completed their last session of their rotation. For the previous weeks Mr Naicker hasn't been with us, so Mr Dunn has being teaching us lately. We continued, by polishing our pizza cutters/ cake servers, and finishing off our worksheets. Today we all maintained to finish our designs, so we tested it, by using pizza and cake. Each person got up and tried if their designs would be able to work. We managed to share both the pizza and cake equally with everyone's working designs. The best part of it was getting to file and polish our designs. Last week we drilled our own wholes into the center of our circles.Thank you to Mr Dunn, Mr Naicker, and Mr Tom for an awesome term of metal work. Next week we might be moving to food tech with Ms Heka.

Information Report Penguins
Chinstrap Penguin
What is your favorite carnivore animal? Did you know that Penguins can not taste their food, so they just swallow their prey whole. Penguins have adapted flippers, so they aren't able to fly, but it helps them swim in water. Penguins that stay in Antarctica have no based predators. Their scientific name is called Spheniscidae (Spe-ni-si-day).
A penguin has two eyes, two ears, a long beak, two flippers, two legs, and a mess of feathers covered around its body. All penguins have black backs and white bellies. The ears of a penguin is covered with feathers. Penguins use their beaks to preen their feathers, especially in fights. Did you know that penguins have knees, although it doesn't look like? The shape of a Penguin's tail is like a wedge.
They spend 75% of their time hunting down for food: fish, krill, and squid. Penguins are carnivores. They get their food from the sea, and something that is clean and filled with rich nutrients. The food that they eat, depends on their behaviour, shape, and size. The most common foods for a penguin to be eating are fish, crustacean, and cephalopods.
Most Penguins are known to be found on every continent in the Southern Hemisphere. They are usually located in the marine environment where there are not as much predators, because they can not fly to escape. These habitats provide everything that a penguin needs, such as water, nutrient, and water.
Penguins have many interesting facts about their habitat, appearance, lifestyle, predators, and more. Just like all birds they are warm blooded. Did you know that not all penguins live in cold places? Little penguins reach the height of either 13 inches/33 centimeters. The largest Penguin is called the Emperor Penguin. They have thick layers of fat that keep them warm. They use tobogganing to glide across the ice like sled.

Aptenodytes (Ap-ten-o-dy-tes)
is another name for Emperor Penguins, which are the most common and big penguins.

The Problem with Pluto - Venn Diagram
This term for reading we have been looking at different type of texts that are linked to our inquiry topic "SPACE". We have created different activities that relate to our chosen book. After reading our texts, we completed 6 activities to help us think deeply about the information in the texts. I have created a Venn diagram about 2 texts that I have already read, which are Sun Facts and The Problem with Pluto. A Venn diagram gives information about the similarities and differences, on 2 different topics. Did you know that both books talk about the Solar System?
Celebrity Star Profile - Creating 3
This term for reading we have been looking at different type of texts that are linked to our inquiry topic "SPACE". We have created different activities that relate to our chosen book. After reading our texts, we completed 6 activities to help us think deeply about the information in the texts. For one of the activities I located 5-10 words that I found difficult to understand. I have created a brochure about the country that my story comes from. A brochure informs others about a specific place/country, as to why they should visit it. The interesting activity that I have completed for this book would be, explaining why the article has the title it does, because I formed many answers for my opinions. Did you know that America has no official language?
Sun Facts - Creating 5
This term for reading we have been looking at different type of texts that are linked to our inquiry topic "SPACE". We have created different activities that relate to our chosen book. After reading our texts, we completed 6 activities to help us think deeply about the information in the texts. I have designed an information poster, that includes a variety of information and images about the Sun. Before starting on our own response, we commented on the activity that the person before us had completed, this lead to strong dialogic conversations as we strengthened our connections to the learning. A dialogic conversation is when 2 people challenge their partners, by forming different opinions. At the moment my favourite selection of activities would be creating.

Science Study
This morning Mrs Wells from Tamaki College came in and talked to a group of us, about the different science experiments that we will be doing. Jack, Fui, Victoria, Nyjah, Alex, Julian, Giovanni, and I took part in this science lesson, as we were planning for an amazing experiment to do with plants. To plan this experiment we used the independent, dependent, and control variables to record this down. We thought of different fertilizers to make these plants grow. We chose coffee grounds, tea levels, soap, crushed lollipops, salt, potatoes, pear skin, baked beams, and pencil shavings. Each person was choose a fertilizer that they would use for their specific plant. We wrote down our hypothesis on what we thought what would be the best fertilizer and what would be the worst one to use.

Tamaki College Open Day
After tech today the year 8's stayed behind at Tamaki College for a open day. This is where the year 8's experience a day of what being at college looks like. We took orientations around the school for different subjects. The subjects that we learnt were Maths and Science. In Maths we learnt how to use co-ordinates, by drawing an alien. To make sure that we had understood what we were learning, we played a Maths game called Billy Bug. (CLICK HERE FOR THE GAME). During morning tea, Mr Dunn (Deputy Principal), and a few year 9 students introduced their selves, as they were going to lead us during the day. In Science we tried 3 different experiments, by using dried ice. For one of the experiments, the equipment that was needed, was dried ice, water, a big bowl, and a cylinder container. To make this experiment work, we were to add dried ice and water into the cylinder container, and then close the lid. After closing the lid you were to stand it up in the bowl, and see it launch up, like a rocket. This was a contest, so the group with the highest launch, were the winners. Thank you to the teachers for the amazing teaching. We enjoy every part of it, especially the challenges.

Kiwisport - Gymnastics
This week LS2 completed their second session of Gymnastics with Steve. Steve works at the Eastern Suberbs Gymnastics gym. Their were 3 courses. Since there were 3 rotations we took 10 minutes at each. We did forward/backward rolls, cartwheels, handstands, beam- balance, building strength, and jumping. These activities gave us the opportunity to become more brave, and try out new challenges. Our warm up was called Toilet Flush. Every time there were new taggers, we did different exercises like: jumping, and hoping on 1 leg. We managed to come out of our comfort zones and try out everything. 1 rule in gymnastics is to give everything a go. One thing that I found interesting was that I could do the beam without stopping, because the first time I tried I kept on stopping.
Google Earth Planets
This term for inquiry our topic is based on Space. Since we are studying about the Solar System, Mr Johnston came into our class and taught us a heap of information about Space, by using Google Earth. Google Earth is a similar site to google maps, but instead you can measure from a distance. To complete this task we were to, start from a specific place and measure the distance, by using the meters of each planet. Victoria, Nyjah, Marieta and I worked collaboratively to get this done. We started from the our school theater. The red lines are the distances from our school. The yellow pin shows where each Planet from our school is stated. I found it interesting that the Earth was located at near our school at Dunkirk Park.

New Zealand Sign Language Week
In New Zealand we have a very important week, which is called Sign Language week. Sign Language week symbolises the deaf community, which gives them the understanding of their language and culture. To communicate with this language, they use body movements, hand signs, and face expressions. Above shows the completed presentation that I created, based on what NZSL is, facts about NZSL, and the greetings. I have imported a video that explains the different hand signs of different greetings. New Zealand has 3 official languages, which are: English, Maori, and Sign Language. This week is held from the 6th of May to the 12th of May. Did you know that more than 24,000 New Zealanders are using Sign Language everyday.

How to draw a image using your google draw tools
What you will need:
- Chromebook/ Device
- Image
- Internet
- Login to your device with your drive opened.
2. Click new, which is located on the top left, to create your google drawing.
3. Give your google drawing a title.
4. Using your address bar, type in Flower clipart for an image.
5. Click on Images, for a variety of pictures.
6. Choose any image that interests you.
7. Place your image onto your google drawing.
8. Zoom into your image, to make your drawing easier.
9. Click Select Line and pick the Curve button. There are many to choose from, but curve is good to use for most drawings.
10. Starting from anywhere, use your cursor to curve on the outside of the flower slowly.

11. Take your time, while drawing each part. Remember that there is no need to rush.
12. Select Fill Colour and choose the colour of your choice.
13. Add any extras to your flower, by clicking on the shape button. There are lots of shapes, so start decorating.
14. Using your left and right buttons on your keyboard, move your image, to compare your drawing to the real one.

So far, this term LS2 has been learning about how to write procedural texts based on different topics. Last week I wrote a procedural text about how to make a Hangi. This week I have written a procedural text based on how to draw a image using your google drawing tools. We were to add images and make sure that our instructions were simple and exact. If you are writing a procedural text you will need a title, list of equipment/materials, numbers, steps in time order, simple and exact sentences, adverbs, and verbs. The one thing that I found interesting is that I am able to understand what a procedural text is and how you write it.
National Young Leaders Day
As an excitement Ms Kirkpatrick, Mr Shaun, and the school leaders went to the Vodafone Events Center for the National Young Leaders Day. National Young Leaders day is a day where all leaders from each school gather together to learn the key competences about what a leader is. There were amazing speakers that spoke to us about their leadership journey, which were: Ronnie Taulafo
( What Now TV Show), Dr Lehan Stemmet, Hana Tapiata, Christian Gallen, and Kings. Our hosts of the day were Liz Alexander, and Phill Baker. Each person spoke about their leadership journey and what it really meant to them. My favourite quote of all was " Communicate to lead, Communicate to connect". One lesson that I learnt was to accept, appreciate, and respect, others. If I was to make the world a better place for someone I would accept their forgiveness. We all learnt what the Korero (food) of a leader is, which meant having conversations. When we have important conversations, we listen, learn, and lead with each other. After each session 5 students had the chance of asking a question to each speaker. My favourite part about the National Young Leaders Day was Christan Gallen's speech, because his jokes were funny, and his leadership journey catched my attention towards what he was saying.

Metal work with Mr Naicker
Today LS2 completed their first session of Tech at Tamaki College for Term 2. It was great to be back at tech finishing off our designs. The year 7's continued with Mr Grundy by finalising their designs, the year 8A continued with Ms Fergsuon by painting their clocks, while the year 8B are with Mr Naicker and are currently filing their pizza cutter/cake server. I am with Mr Naicker. Most people are still filing their designs, while some are filing their pizza cutter, or cake server, which means that their handles are already done. At the moment I am filing the pizza cutter of my design. I was previously using sandpaper to make the handle of my pizza cutter more smooth.

Mele... I am an ' Agent of Change'
In Panmure Bridge School, we have an Agent of Change sign that symbolises the changes that we can make to our learning. It helps our students develop their learning, by setting/challenging goals for themselves. LS2 has been overcoming their goals, by becoming an Agent of Change, during their learning time. Above shows the google drawing that I created, based on what I can do to become an Agent of Change for Panmure Bridge School. I included what an agent of change is, what I would do to become one, and how I will make it work. The meaning of an Agent of Change is someone who makes switches to their learning opportunities.
Multiplication Problem
This week for Maths, LS2 used different types of strategies to solve different story problems. The strategies that I have used this week are reversibility, place value, and lattice. Above shows a created DLO and screencastify that I completed. For this story problem I was to work out 2466 x 6. I used the place value strategy for this problem, because it was the easiest one that I could use. The place value strategy included the ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands columns, because I was solving a 4 digit by 1 digit number. I have created a screencastify that shows you how I solved this cupcake problem.
